N.S. Rana

Born in 1951 in Delhi, Rana passed B.F.A. in sculpture with 1st Class specialising in metal casting from Delhi College of Art. Reminiscent of the early years of growing up in the rural environs of Rajasthan, Rana moulds his bronzes in typical rural and semi urban themes. The elongated figural posture attempts to capture the mythological and social scenario of the village hinterland. The artist’s approach seems to inculcate all the 3 F’s of Sculpting namely, fact, form, function. Form depicts the fact and function lies in the aim which may vary from educative to decorative, passing through various stages. The most arresting works in the show are the mythological reliefs. Bordering on secular thoughts these reliefs weight more on thematic side and are equally rich in texture as well as the decorative element.
