Chandrashekhar Morkonda

A tree is a perennial plant with an elongated stem, or trunk, supporting branches and leaves. Chandrashekhar Morkonda couldn’t care less. His tree themed paintings are a brilliant explosion of bright colour and mythological symbols, the likes of which has never been seen before. The interest his paintings have generated among art critics and collectors in India and abroad are ample testimony of the investment value that his art offers. He is one of the youngest artists out of India who is ticking all the right boxes.

Chandrashekhar Morkonda hails from Srikalahasti. It’s one of southern India’s prominent pilgrimage towns. Chandra, as he is popularly known was born here into a family of weavers and grew up listening to stories and myths about the temple and the gods. He did his schooling and junior college in Srikalahasti where in the 8th Std. he decided that painting is what he wanted to do for a living. He went on to complete a Masters in Fine Arts from the very prestigious ‘Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati University’, Santiniketan and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from JNTU, College of Fine Arts in Hyderabad.
